Lesson 6: Create Your Brand Story and Creative World

Develop the story behind your artistry, your creative universe, emotional themes, cultural context, and the narrative connecting who you have been, who you are now, and where you are going.

Outcome. Write the story of your artistry as a narrative that moves rather than a list of facts.

A biography is a list. A story has a before, a turn and an after, and only the second kind gets retold by someone else. Yours has to connect three points: where you came from, what you are doing now, and where the work is going, with a reason the middle followed the first.

Around the story sits the world. The recurring themes, the places, the colors, the references, the questions you keep returning to. Artists with a world outlast artists with a hit, because a world gives an audience somewhere to stay between releases.

Place it in a context. Music does not arrive from nowhere, it answers something happening around it. Naming what your work is responding to is what turns a personal story into a cultural one, and it is what a journalist will actually use.

What you will produce

A brand story with a clear arc, a map of your creative world and recurring themes, and a short statement of the cultural context your work is speaking into.
