Address common licensing issues involving ownership disputes, split information, metadata, clearances, unauthorized uses, royalty tracking, conflicting rights, and contract terms.
Outcome. Prevent the failures that kill placements, and handle them when they happen anyway.
Most licensing failures are administrative rather than legal. Conflicting splits, a co writer who cannot be reached, an identifier that was never issued, or metadata that names the wrong publisher.
A split sheet signed in the room, on the day, before anyone knows whether the song matters, prevents more disputes than any contract clause. Splits agreed after success are negotiations.
Uncleared samples are the most common reason a placement dies late, when the deadline has already passed and there is no time to fix it. Know the position before you pitch, not after you are asked.
Unauthorized use is a real and ordinary problem. Registration is what gives you standing in the United States, and for disputes under thirty thousand dollars the Copyright Claims Board inside the Copyright Office is a realistic route for an independent artist. Royalty tracking is the other half: money that is never chased is never paid.
What you will produce
A dispute prevention checklist, signed split sheets for your catalog, and a quarterly royalty reconciliation you actually run.
